KELLI ALI
Kelli Ali's musical career has been as diverse and far out as the lady herself!
Kelli began making music as a teenager in Birmingham (The Lumieres and Psychodrama) and in the early 90's, she was asked to join Sneaker Pimps who became, with the help of Kelli's lush vocals and enigmatic style, one of the most successful trip hop bands to cross over from U.K. to U.S. fame, with chart hit Six Under Ground and club smash, Spin Spin Sugar. As the lead singer of Sneaker Pimps (she was then known as Kelli Dayton) Kelli toured world wide to critical acclaim and enjoyed such experiences as collaborating with Bryan Ferry, Marilyn Manson and Armand Van Helden.
After returning from a U.S. tour in 1997, Sneaker Pimps decided that their guitarist would sing and Kelli was set free to make her own record. In the couple of years that Kelli spent writing her debut album, Tiger Mouth, Kelli also collaborated with artists Satoshi Tomiie (Experimental dance guru) on tracks; Up In Flames, Love in Traffic and Marc Almond on Almost Diamonds.
Kelli signed with One Little Indian Records in 2000 and worked with producers, Rick Nowels (Ivor Novello award winner, Stevie Nicks, Madonna, Belinda Carlisle) and Marius De Vries (Bjork, Madonna, P.J. Harvey), as co-producer and main writer of her amazing debut album Tiger Mouth in a private Los Angeles studio.
Kelli also sang with skate punk band, Linkin' Park on their Re-animation album and wrote and performed with Bootsy Collins on the title track of his latest album, Play with Bootsy.
In 2003, Kelli asked Dave Mc Cracken (Depeche Mode, Ian Brown, Amanda Ghost) to work with her on her latest solo album, Psychic Cat, inspired by a real life Psychic Cat whom Kelli encountered whilst recording in Santa Monica. The Psychic Cat album is every bit as diverse as you would imagine from an artist who has worked in such a vast array of musical areas, it seems that there is no limit to her musical versatility and understanding of making great songs, which have a unique and unmistakable sound.
Released in the U.S. on January 25th 2005, by One Little Indian Records U.S. Psychic Cat, has been described as "a classic album not to be missed' and 'a strong and eclectic album of great quality'. Kelli herself describes the album as 'Psychedelic Madness in a controlled environment'.
